How to Play High Cotton

We were recently asked to publish the instructions for High Cotton so that everyone can get an idea of what a fun game it is to play, so here they are:

Required Items:
High Cotton playing cards and High Cotton chips
Favorite southern drinks (such as sweet tea, mint julep, or peach daiquiri)
Favorite southern snacks (such as pound cake, cheese straws, or mixed nuts)

Number and type of players:
4 13 good looking southern friends or friends who wish they were southern and good looking. It is a high honor to be the hostess of a High Cotton card game.

Object:
Win the title of Miss High Cotton by winning the last high cotton chip. It is desirable to do this without getting or giving scratches and bruises, but it is competition after all.

Set Up:
The players all sit around a table or on the floor. This game works well on the front porch so you can wave at passersby or at the kitchen table where snacks and drinks are close by.
Place chips on the table or floor using one less chip than the number of players. Place the chips so they are in easy reach of everyone. This is just plain good manners
Shuffle the cards. The hostess of honor gets to be the first dealer and deals 4 cards to the others. For later rounds the deal will pass to the left. All cards not dealt become the dealer deck.

Game Play:
Examine your dealt hand. The dealer says pass and every player simultaneously chooses one card from their hand, passes that card to the person on their left. The dealer draws her card from the dealer deck. The player to the right of the dealer (the last player before the dealer) creates a discard pile during play. The discard pile is not used unless the dealer deck runs out.

Players must pass a card before picking up a card! No player can ever have more than four cards in her hand, so she may not pick her new card before passing one to the left. Keep a careful watch for any cheaters in the crowd. Continue passing one card to the left and taking a card from the person on your right every time the dealer says pass. If the dealer deck runs out, the discard deck may be used.

When a player collects four of a kind she picks up a chip. One can be sneaky about this if one chooses. Once the player with four of a kind picks up a chip, everyone else should grab a chip as quickly as possible. The player who does not get a chip is out of the game. It would be great if this person would then serve drinks to everyone still playing.

Remove one chip from the table and play another round. Continue until there are only two players playing for the last chip. The player to get four of a kind and the last chip is in high cotton and is named Miss High Cotton! She should immediately receive a crown or roses, or at a minimum get to have her own parade as soon as possible. Be sure to take her picture.

If time permits play another game. Things could get testy if you have several winners of Miss High Cotton around, so if anyone throws a hissy fit you should immediately take away her drink.

It is acceptable to beg, plead, bargain or bribe in order to be the next hostess of High Cotton. Its always a good idea to take photos of everyone having a good time. Send a photo or two to www.peachandlove.com to be featured on our blog and entered to win game accessories.

Copyright 2009 Peach and Love

Now that you are dying to have a game of your own simply click on our Products tab and place your order!

A group of southern belles in Nicholsville, KY made sure they played High Cotton with a high society attitude as the game so rightly deserves. Gwen, the honored hostess (oh, yes, it's a high honor to be the hostess of a High Cotton game), pulled out all the stops and surprised her Girls Night Out crew with hat-making supplies so that all the belles would start the game out on equal ground. They looked pretty fancy, but I don't know how long things stayed civilized. Gwen says they kept the scratching and clawing to a minimum, but she conceded that "it is competition after all!" We love their spirit!

Here's a big shout-out to the girls in Nicholsville, KY, and special congratulations to Miss High Cotton!

<img id="imagebox_8_0" src="http://peachandlove.com/content/images/upimage_1289670211_155.jpg" alt="" "150" "112" />

To purchase the High Cotton game and the Miss High Cotton Queen necklace, please click on the Products tab at the top of the home page.

I can't even describe it. Women everywhere. Women had taken over the Grand Hyatt, taken over Peachtree Road, then they came in the exhibit boutique and took us over the moon with fun! Did I mention they were happy? Were we happy to see them? Yes! Yes!

Tell me what's more fun than a bunch of girlfriends, sisters, mothers, daughters going off for a weekend get-away to be inspired, motivated, tickled, gifted, and still get to S-H-O-P til they drop.
I was pretty scared when Halloween rolled around what with all the witches and goblins that were suspect to hit our town. I cowered down behind the blinds and tentatively peeked out the window occasionally to see what was up. Truth is.....we live so far out in the "boonies" that we don't even see trick or treaters! That's sad. So sad.

So, when I saw headlights coming down our long driveway, I simply thought it was my neighbor coming over because she smelled the cookies I had just baked. Instead, out of the car pops this scary, scary witchy creature below:

<img id="imagebox_8_0" src="http://peachandlove.com/content/images/upimage_1288694488_152.jpg" alt="" "150" "100" />

Then, she tried to eat all my cookies. That's how witches will do ya. But, that's not all. The night was not over yet. I hear this loud BUZZZZing coming from my office. So, I investigate and find the BUZZZZing is coming straight from my computer. Oh, Lord. Please don't let this thing crash. That would surely be a Halloween to remember. I opened up facebook and the BUZZZZZing continued. WHAT THE HECK????!!

<img id="imagebox_8_1" src="http://peachandlove.com/content/images/upimage_1288694487_151.jpg" alt="" "93" "150" />

Well, look at that scary little Halloween honey bee! I almost jumped out of my skin. So that's what all that BUZZZZing was about....Happy Halloween from our cute little grandbaby.

We hope you all had a fun Halloween.
It all started with a little thing called love. Yeah, y'all know what I'm talkin' about. Krista was innocently working away at one of our FAVORITE shops, Two Friends, in Perry, GA (http://www.twofriends2.com/ ) when her brand new hunky husband, James, whisked her away to Greenville, NC to start a new life. Two Friends cried, Krista's daddy cried, but it all worked out. Here's proof:

<img id="imagebox_8_0" src="http://peachandlove.com/content/images/upimage_1284117703_144.jpg" alt="" "150" "110" />

Especially for US because, guess what? Krista was hired by Jefferson's (http://www.jeffersonflorist.com/about.htm) in Greenville, and she got busy taking care of business fast! Yes, she did, yessiree, she told them all about the High Cotton game and now Greenville, NC is about to join the hysteria that is sweeping the nation around this party game. When Krista first moved there she set her sights on working for Jefferson's, and we can understand why.....take a look at that fabulous, restored, historic building where she clocks in every day...........OMGoodness Gracious, pass the grits! And, if you're headed to the outer banks or if you live near Greenville, for heaven's sake, go by there and tell them all we said "Hey!" Thank you, Krista and Jefferson's Florist!
